TE 803 Professional Roles & Teaching Practice II
Spring 2011
Instructor: Laura Andresen
In this course, we looked at social studies curriculum and accommodating students with special needs. For the social studies aspect of the course we created a cross-curricular unit of study focused on the Michigan Content Expectations and incorporating adaptations for special needs. My unit focused on the culture, history, and economics of North America. The historical part of this unit will allow students to look across time and see how continued interaction of cultures has resulted in cultural diffusion. We also read the novel “Walk Two Moons” by Sharon Creech throughout the unit to learn about how culture has affected different generations of a family. For another part of this course, we participated in a Lesson Study. This is a professional development process that educators engage in to systematically examine their practice. We worked in teams to plan a lesson, teach the lesson, reflect and make changes and reteach with improvements.

TE 804 Reflection & Inquiry Teaching Practice II
Spring 2011
Instructor: Timothy Bennett
TE 804 was a science based course that used action research to improve teachers' skills in gathering, analyzing, and interpreting data. I designed an Energy Unit based on investigative and exploratory practices. After the assessment, we thoroughly analyzed the student results. Using the information I gathered during the unit of study I was able to reflect upon what my students learned, struggled with, and how to use that information to grow as a teacher.

CEP 810 Teaching Understanding with Technology
Fall 2011
Instructor: Jodi Spicer and Melissa White
CEP 810 was a summer course and my first introduction to the MAET program at Michigan State. Throughout the summer, I increased my knowledge of practical applications of computer software while also exploring the effectiveness and appropriateness of online technology. We completed work that directly related to our classrooms and also utilized the internet to gauge what is useful for a classroom setting. My favorite experience was working in a group to put together a PowerPoint. We had to work together online to collaborate our proposal. This required new skills and flexibility to accomplish the task. Our proposal involved showing how students can benefit from creating personal learning networks through different social mediums.

CEP 811 Adapting Innovative Technology to Education
Fall 2011
Instructors: Jodi Spicer and Nancy Ayers
CEP 811 focused on creating resources that can stand alone and be an asset to your classroom and your professional development. This included a PowerPoint design (STAIR), and a webquest lesson plan online. Throughout the course, I felt challenged to be creative, concise and meaningful in my work. It was during this course that I experimented with a vast array of online tools and began to create a digital footprint.

CEP 800 Psychology of Learning in School & Other Settings
Spring 2012
Instructors: Zachary Mural and Sandra Sawaya
This course revolved around the idea of TPACK: Technological Pedagogical
Content Knowledge which encourages the use of technology to enhance a teacher's existing pedagogy and content knowledge. It also focused on the idea that learning is an active and continual behavior that is directly affected by the different settings of school, home, etc. We explored the idea of changing one variable, such as, how something is taught to produce different results in student learning. One of the projects we did was a Digital Story. I used a RAFT to extend the lesson on integers. |
CEP 812 Applying Educational Technology to Practice
Spring 2012
Instructors: Jodi Spicer and Chuck Commeret
CEP 812 featured work creating a technology plan for our personal classroom. This included a TechQuest project in which we had to explain a technology that would improve a facet of our curriculum. In addition, we were asked to research and create a lesson involving an educational problem that currently affects our field of study. To communicate and share ideas throughout the rest of courses we created a professional blog. LP's Piece of Mind includes a collection of my work.

CEP 815 Technology and Leadership
Summer 2012
Instructors: Luke Rapa and Nick Sheltrown
This course revolved around the idea of TPACK: Technological Pedagogical
Content Knowledge which encourages the use of technology to enhance a teacher's existing pedagogy and content knowledge. I produced a Prezi presentation on as a snapshot of what I learned from this course. |
CEP 822 Approaches to Educational Research
Summer 2012
Instructors: Sandra Sawaya and David Wong
For this course, we worked through the lens of a researcher. We designed and
conducted research project after analyzing the works of others. We investigated good practices of gathering data and how to use that data to make informed decisions. One study we collectively conducted was on cell phone use and its affects on people of all ages. |
CEP 820 Teaching Students Online
Summer 2013
Instructors: Anne Heintz, Sandra Sawaya, and Leigh Wolf
During CEP 820, I was able to experiment with and create my own online learning environment. It was incredibly interesting to have participated in online classes and then take cues, successes and failures into account when creating my own class. After researching different LMS (Learning Management System) programs, also known as Course Management Systems, I chose a system entitled Coursesites and my topic was operations with scientific notation. Through instruction and practice I integrated asynchronous and synchronous pedagogical strategies to create an accessible and effective online learning module.

CEP 807 Capstone Educational Technology
Summer 2013
Instructor: Mathew Koehler
This course was the final conclusion to the master of arts degree of educational technology at Michigan State. Each week focused on a reflection of our past work and also led to the creation of this portfolio. This culmination of work is meant to be shared with parents, students and teachers and be a working document into the work being done even after the masters program is complete. Working together in small teams, we were able to share ideas, encourage each other and give suggestions to improve our portfolios.
