Creating Lifelong Learners
The purpose of an educator is to inspire lifelong learning. Teachers need to focus on providing students with opportunities and teaching them the skills that will allow them to grow in their education. It is imperative to teach our pupils how to be well-rounded students so they can succeed in acquiring knowledge in whatever field they choose. These skills include everything from how to take notes and use a planner to knowing how to inquire about a topic and access resources. Teachers need to model these skills, show their students what results when you never give up on an opportunity to learn, and allow them to put those skills into practice. Acclimation to these skills will take their learning to new heights.
Differentiating Instruction
In every school and in every classroom there are no two identical students. Every child learns and comprehends differently. Getting to know the students and the community is essential to differentiating classroom instruction. Educators must use whatever tools necessary to scaffold student learning and maximize student achievement in the classroom. This can be done through a variety of ways, such as, using visual, verbal, and written instruction. Technology is another great tool that integrates 21st century skills and engages students that are growing up in a digital age. Through a variety of instructional methods, teachers can personalize the learning process for each student.
Supportive Learning Environment
For students to learn, they must first feel comfortable to share and engage in their educational experience. Teachers must create a safe and supportive learning atmosphere for everyone to be included. Establishing expectations can avoid many issues in the classroom. It is the teacher's job to create a balance of responsibility between the teacher and student to create a positive learning environment. Restitution may be the result for students that need an alternative option. Restitution is solely a choice, but it allows the student to come up with a solution or a way to redeem them self for the actions they chose. This puts the responsibility on the student and creates a better environment for all students. Parent communication can also aid in establishing a supportive community. Keeping an open communication line between teachers, parents, coaches, etc. provides a net for students to fall back on as they grow as learners and citizens in the community.
