About Me
Professionally
I graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor's degree through their Elementary Education Program. I completed my internship year in a sixth grade classroom at Whitehills Elementary School, a title 1 school in East Lansing, Michigan. Shortly after I finished my internship, I continued my education with Michigan State University towards a Masters of Arts in Educational Technology. I taught my first two years, including summer school both years, at another title 1 school called Cesar Chavez Academy located in Detroit, Michigan. For my third year, I accepted a position at Branch Line School in Livonia, Michigan to gain a unique teaching experience. Branch Line was a brand new charter school that was designed with a project-based curriculum including multi-age classes.
After 25 years in Michigan, I made the transition to Virginia Beach where I began working at Independence Middle School. I taught sixth grade math (core, inclusion, and pre-algebra) and worked collaboratively with another teacher on the ARDT (Algebra Readiness) program. Over the years, I have served on several school improvement committees including the Numeracy Committee, Student Recognition Committee, and Student Cooperative Association Advisor. After three years in middle school, I received the Instructional Technology Specialist position at my current school Pembroke Meadows Elementary. Personally
Some of my personal interests including traveling, cooking, playing sports, pottery, and reading. I love to travel to all
different climates and develop compassion for other cultures. I play a variety of sports year-round including volleyball, soccer, softball, and tennis. The picture above is from a trip to Boulder, Colorado where I met my brother from Washington D.C. to do some hiking and snowboarding.
